Gose Añejo

The first time we aged beer in tequila barrels was our first blend of Gose Añejo in 2017. We brewed a beer inspired by a margarita, but what we ended up with was something way more awesome.

Gose Añejo began as a tart gose brewed with sea salt and agave. This is a wonderful and refreshing base beer that really mimics the tart and salty qualities of your favorite cocktail for the beach!  The first thing you notice though, with a glass of Gose Añejo is the subtle but unmistakable aroma of tequila. It comes from aging our beer in barrels that previously stored Cazadores tequila. When we got the barrels, they were freshly emptied, with tequila aroma and flavors soaked deeply into the oak. By aging in these barrels for about 6 months, the beer took on an earthy aroma. Then to finish out the margarita, we blended the beer and matured it further on lime peels, orange peels and fresh squeezed lime juice. This conjures up a classic, bright and fruity margarita flavor without overpowering all the complexity from the beer and the aging process.

When you have a cold glass of Gose Añejo, the tequila character has a subtle presence, creating a fairly complex drinking experience. But as it warms up, Gose Añejo really begins to turn into the margarita it was inspired by, with bold citrus and tequila flavors!

We hope you enjoy this beer on a beach under the sun. Cheers!
