In 2015, Matt Van Wyk and brothers Brian and Doug Coombs founded Alesong with the goal to elevate the way beer is experienced and to lean into true small-batch craftsmanship.
Meet our Founders
Brian Coombs
Director of Operations, Co-Founder
Brian is the catalyst responsible for turning the Alesong dream into a reality, bringing the team together and convincing us all to dive in head first. With a chemistry background, Brian entered the beer world through the cellar at Oakshire Brewing where Matt recognized how helpful his expertise would be with managing longer fermentations in a less controlled environment. The more involvement Brian had with barrel-aged beer, the more he was hooked.
Matt Van Wyk
Director of Sales, Founding Brewmaster
Matt is a brewing industry veteran with more than two decades of experience making barrel -aged beers. After 7 years as brewmaster at Oakshire Brewing, Matt was ready to take on a new challenge and venture out on his own. Always a lover of brewing for its artistry and the creative outlet it provided him, Matt has been a huge fan of making and consuming barrel-aged and Belgian-style beers throughout his career and is thrilled that those styles are the focus at Alesong.
Doug Coombs
Co-Founder
With a background in the wine world, Doug has worked with some of the top wineries in California. He loves wine and the intentional experience that wineries offer, but has always had a much stronger affinity for beer as a consumer. When Brian came to him with the idea of a brewery that blurred the lines between the two worlds, he was sold. He’s stepped away from day-to-day operations, but you may spot him around the world at festivals representing Alesong.

Alesong Brewing and Blending is a boutique, artisan brewery, winery, and cidery specializing in barrel-aged and Belgian-inspired beers located in a scenic wine country location roughly 20 miles southwest of Eugene and additional production and office facilities in West Eugene. Founded in 2015, we have been fortunate enough to receive a number of awards and recognitions at some of the world’s most respected competitions. We were named brewery of the year at the 2024 Great American Beer Festival and the 2021 Oregon Beer Awards in our size categories.
