Get to Know: Raspberry Rhino Suit
Our Bourbon barrel-aged imperial milk stout, Rhino Suit, is here to stay at Alesong. We’ll brew it again and again for those who love it, but we’ll always keep innovating. Reminded of the classic pairing of sweet raspberries with roasty dark chocolate, we created our first fruited version: Raspberry Rhino Suit.
This Fall 2019 release maintains the decadent malt-forward flavors of our past versions of Rhino Suit, and the months this beer spent aging in freshly emptied Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels supplies familiar vanilla and bourbon notes. Bold raspberry aromas and flavors layer on to balance the malty backdrop.
We’ve wanted to try a fruited stout like this for a while and after last quarter’s release of The BeerMonger’s Biscotti, with its bold orange zest aroma, we’re even more excited to release this version that was co-fermented with real fruit.
We picked up raspberries at Stahlbush Island Farms in Corvallis because we thought the tang and sweetness of a raspberry would pair nicely with a rich Bourbon barrel-aged beer. We’ve used their fruit in the past for our Raspberry Parliament, as well as for beers still in the works. Their fruit is local for us and of such a great quality that we know it makes a great addition to what we brew.
Raspberry Rhino suit will be a small batch release brewed specifically for our Blender’s Circle bottle club members. We’ll have enough on draft at the tasting room for anyone who would like to try a glass, and we’ll hold a couple cases back for any new members who sign up this season.
